Frequently Asked Questions
General
Is Loreden free?
Yes. Loreden is completely free to use. There are no paywalled features, no premium tiers, and no subscription required.
Do I need to use PathCompanion to use Loreden?
No. PathCompanion is an optional integration. You can create and manage characters entirely within Loreden without ever connecting PathCompanion. The sync feature is there if you use PathCompanion and want your stats kept in step automatically.
Do I need the Discord bot to use Loreden?
No. The Discord bot is optional. The full character management, worldbuilding, and goal tracking features are available from the Loreden website. The bot adds the ability to roll dice and check character stats without leaving your Discord server.
What game system does Loreden support?
Loreden is built around Pathfinder 1st Edition. The character sheet, stat fields, and Discord dice-rolling commands are all designed for PF1E. If you play a different system, you can still use the worldbuilding and storytelling features, but the character sheet and bot commands are PF1E-specific.
Characters
Will syncing from PathCompanion overwrite my backstory and roleplay notes?
No. PathCompanion sync only updates mechanical stat fields — ability scores, HP, saves, skills, class levels, feats, and inventory. Your backstory, personality notes, character bio, and any other freely written content are never touched by the sync.
What is a character code?
A character code is a short identifier unique to your character. Other Loreden users can enter your character code to look up your character's public profile page. It's the quickest way to share a character without needing to paste a full URL.
Can I have more than one character?
Yes. You can create as many characters as you like on a single Loreden account.
How long are version snapshots kept?
Character version history snapshots are kept for 90 days. After that, old snapshots are automatically removed. Your current character sheet is never deleted.
Worldbuilding
Can I share a family tree with someone who doesn't have a Loreden account?
Yes. Every family tree has a public share link that lets anyone view it in a browser without logging in. The link is view-only — they can read the tree but not make any changes.
Can I use any calendar system for my timelines?
Yes. Loreden doesn't enforce any particular calendar. You set a human-readable date label for each event (e.g. "Year 412 of the Third Age") and a separate sort number that Loreden uses only for ordering events correctly on the timeline. This means any calendar system — real-world, homebrew, or fully invented — works without any adaptation.
Can I import maps from other tools?
Loreden supports importing location data from Perilous Shores. If you export your generated map from Perilous Shores, Loreden can place pins automatically from that file. For other map tools, you can upload the image and place pins manually.
Discord Bot
How do I invite the Loreden bot to my server?
Visit loreden.net and follow the Add to Discord link. You'll need the Manage Server permission on the Discord server you're adding it to.
The bot isn't responding — what should I check?
- Make sure the bot has permission to read messages and send messages in the channel you're using
- Check that you have a character set as active using
/setchar - If the problem persists, try removing and re-adding the bot to the server
